They are hunted in secret places along the picturesque Italian hillsides, usually under the cover of dark. The specially trained dogs that find them and dig them up had better not eat them! Wars could be and probably have been started over a handful of these rare, subterranean fungi! While Italians have plotted against one another just for a taste, Americans have largely been left out. But now, thanks to new infusions in an array of products from oils to flour, everyone can enjoy and afford this earthly treasure, the truffle! | |
